Sail away with us for adventure and knitting with well-known designer, teacher, author, and illustrator, Franklin Habit and Northwest Yarns! Feel the wind in your hair as you breezily knit through this three-day, two-night sailing adventure in the San Juan Islands.

During this cruise, Franklin will lead you and your fellow nautical knitters on an adventure through History, Methods, and Styles of Lace Knitting, as well as his very popular A Sense of Proportion: A Glorious Compendium of Methods for Knitting without Tapes and Rulers. Echo Mae & Heather Seevers, the Cephalopod Sisters of Northwest Yarns, will be aboard to introduce you to the region’s vibrant fiber arts scene.

Franklin travels constantly to teach knitters across the country and internationally. His newest book is I Dream of Yarn: A Knit and Crochet Coloring Book. He lives in Chicago, Illinois, cohabiting shamelessly with 15,000 books, a Schacht spinning wheel, three looms, and a colony of yarn that multiplies whenever his back is turned.

Echo and Heather are Northwest Yarns’ co-owners, designers, and teachers. When not shamelessly encouraging anyone and everyone to learn a fiber art, Heather and Echo can be found exploring fiber arts trends, culture, and history to share with all.

Upon boarding the ship the passengers will each receive a goody bag courtesy of Northwest Yarns.  A list of items knitters will need to provide for themselves will be emailed at a later date along with class information.

In addition to taking classes, socializing and knitting, passengers will also be learning sailing stations, the basics of navigating, steering the ship and standing watch. By the end of your trip, you will come away with new knitting inspiration and some nautical skills!

Sign up now for a cruise you will fondly remember for years to come. We can’t wait to see you on the ship!

Part of the adventure of sailing is that wind and tide may alter your course. For this reason the Zodiac may deviate from it’s intended route at the captain’s discretion. Bearing this in mind, the captain and crew will always endeavor to give passengers the most incredible experience possible. Already booked and wondering what to pack? See our handy packing list.

“What an adventure! This is a hands-on experience! Duty rotations include chart room, helm, bow watch and messenger. And everyone helps to raise the sails. The captain and all-volunteer crew are fun and ever-watchful over their charges. No surprise here…good food and plenty of it for very hungry people….”
