Ukes’a’Sea returns for our 2025 season! Join well-known local Bellingham, Washington ukulele teacher Gail MacDonald as she charts a new musical course for our fourth ukulele cruise – PLAYING BY HEART.

Gail has taught hundreds of students over the last twenty years in classes including strumming, swing, music theory, music literacy (reading notes), and finger picking.

On our three day nautical journey, Gail will teach you skills and techniques to help you find your own musicality, with a focus on training your ear to “Play by Heart”.

Geared towards Intermediate Level players, we’ll explore the fretboard above 1st position; develop an understanding of Music theory using the circle fifths as our guide; take a deeper dive into some classic songs; and enhance and embellish some familiar chords.

Gail is also the Founder and former director of the 20 piece Bellingham Ukulele Orchestra, and former co-leader of the Bellingham Ukulele Group (BUG).

* Grab your uke and come aboard for “Ukes’a’Sea 2025” – three days of ukulele playing and tall ship sailing through the beautiful San Juan Islands. *

Part of the adventure of sailing is that wind and tide may alter your course. For this reason the Zodiac may deviate from it’s intended route at the captain’s discretion. Bearing this in mind, the captain and crew will always endeavor to give passengers the most incredible experience possible. Already booked and wondering what to pack? See our handy packing list.

“The crew was outstanding, meals were excellent, and the trip was memorable. I learned so much about sailing and the historical schooner. The crew is passionate and have a sincere pride for the schooner and passengers. I LOVED my time on this trip. The environment was gorgeous and relaxing.’
